I have to agree with Jeremy C. When we first walked in, the waitress seemed scared, like we were going to yell at her. It was an odd welcome. Perhaps she was overwhelmed. She was the ONLY waitress, for about 6 tables. Or, was it cultural? Still it was odd...but it got better from there. I ordered E-1..the Vermicelli bowl with Marinated Pork and Shrimp and two Pork Egg Rolls. It was fabulous!! $9 for a generous portion. The pork and shrimp were succulent. We had started with the Spring Rolls and a Bubble Tea. We loved them too. The bubble tea was different than any I've had before though. We chose Mango. It was more of a milkshake, frozen. The Boba were delicious, but it didn't have the jelly in it. It was still really good. The waitress warmed up to us by the end of the meal, with some smiles, thank yous, and engagement. She was really sweet! We found this one on Yelp. Another win for Yelp reviewers! Thank you!!

This place used to be an Italian restaurant, so the décor was a bit more on the Italian side instead of the traditional Vietnamese décor. I think I came a bit too early since there wasn't anyone around. No waiter, no staff, no nothing. VERY quiet inside. Almost a bit creepy. I checked the time to see when they opened. Yep, 11am. It was 11:10am I just stood there in the entrance thinking...what should I do next? Maybe I should walk around and make some noise? I figured, maybe if I jingle my keys someone will hear me? I waited some more in silence, finally, after a few more minutes, a guy came out and smiled, pointed to a table and told us to sit down. He was very nice, but didn't speak English very well. I can't speak Vietnamese either, so our communication skills were a little rough on both sides. He asked about drinks. I tried to order a bubbl tea drink, but he didn't understand what kind of drink I wanted. He just smiled, said," sorry I don't speak English well." I let it go. Who needs a drink anyway? I checked out the menu. Figured out what I wanted, pointed at the picture on the menu and smiled. It got the job done. I ordered the Bun GA Nuong ...marinated grilled chicken with vermicelli noodles. Within a 10 minutes, food was served. Nice big serving in a BIG bowl. Looked very good, however, it wasn't very hot. I'm not talking spicy, I'm talking about the temperature of the food. It wasn't even warm. More like room temp. Maybe it was supposed to a cold dish? I guess I expected something warm, especially the chicken. It tasted ok. Nothing to talk about. About 15 min. later, a lady comes out and she is asking how everything was and If I needed anything. I could tell she could speak English, so I figured, why not ask her for a drink. Bubbl tea, Mango. She understood and I finally got my tea. I must say, the drink was actually better than the meal. Again, Nice people, food is just...OK.

This Vietnamese restaurant, Pho Sai Gon, is more than what meets the eye. We visited a few times when it first opened and we felt there was much room for improvement. To our delightful surprise they have made such needed improvements. We started our dinner with a few special drinks (iced coffee and Buble tea). Both were fantastic! We also ordered Goi Cuon Nem Nuong (salad rolls with pork) as appetizer -delicious and fresh! General Tso's chicken (Com Ga Dai Tuong) Orange chicken (Com Ga Hay Bo Cam) Kung Pao Bo ( Ga Hay Tom) Pho Ga (chicken) All wonderful, very fresh ingredients, a treasure in The Dalles!! Thank you to the owners and chef and wait staff (the glad serving spoke English quite well so it made it easy to communicate). We will definitely be back! Our 8 yr old even said it was awesome!

For those of you who are struggling to pronounce Pho...It is said like, "Fa?" not "Faux." No MSG Pho in The Dalles! I am from the San Francisco Bay Area and am used to a large variety of choices when it comes to Asian cuisine. Imagine my surprise moving to the Hood River County! There are a few Thai places that are decent in Hood River, but I had given up on the Columbia River Gorge for authentic Asian food. Pho Sai Gon is so good! I get the worst headaches from MSG, which is often put in Pho. When a place does not use it, it is a great sign that their food will be fresh and authentic. My only complaint is that not enough people know what good Vietnamese is so the owner has started to make her dishes suitable for milder palettes. I ordered the salad rolls with tofu and got a roll with no cilantro, mint, carrots, or bean sprouts. I also ordered the Pho, so I just grabbed the cilantro from my plate of basil/bean sprouts etc and made sure to put a generous squirt of shiracha into my mild peanut sauce. Next time I will ask them to make it "authentic" and season the dishes I order as they would for themselves. If you have never tried Vietnamese food, it's like Thai with less coconut milk. If you are looking for some delicious comfort food (noodle soup), try the Pho. Their menu was quite extensive, spanning Vietnam, Thailand, and a little bit of China. I will be back and will make up excuses to visit the Dalles if only to eat the Pho!!

While there food is good and did come out quickly they have the most awkward and unfriendly staff I've seen in a while. It was a little uncomfortable eating there. Plus some random poorly dressed Vietnamese guy kept pretending to fill up the already full bottles at my table which made me dangerously suspicious that he thought I was going to dine and dash for some reason. And on a another note they must not understand English when I said no tapioca or mixed jelly in my bubble tea. I told them twice but I guess I should have said it in Vietnamese lol.... 7 out of 10 still just cuz the food and bubble tea were frickin bomb.

I have been back several times since my first review and I am happy to announce that service is normal! I am so happy that my first visit experience was a one time thing. The pho really is delicious and I just hope and pray they stick around. This is now my favorite place to eat in The Dalles.

The waitress was nice but seemed confused by everything we said. We got a to-go order and it was only ok. I got the pad thai, which I have enjoyed at many other restaraunts and it was not great. The beef noodle soup was watery and barely had any noodles. Wouldn't eat here again. Oh, yeah; they charged us an extra fee for getting it to-go.

Another favorite place to eat in The Dalles! One of the most beautiful places in town for atmosphere, decor and ambiance, even if it's obvious it was previously Italian or Greek. The service was friendly and quick. My son ordered a small pho which was not terribly small but he'd seen the large bowl and it was HUGE. He wasn't ready for that kind of a commitment I guess. I ordered marinated grilled pork over vermicelli noodles and it was fantastic, lots of flavor and it came in one of those humongous bowls with bean sprouts, romaine, greens, julienne carrot and cucumber, sprinkled with peanut. A little dish of fish sauce on the side, which seemed kind of watered down to me compared to other fish sauces I've had before, but still tasty. I loved it and my son finished it up for me and loved it too. I tried his pho broth and it was very good. We both ordered an avocado bubble tea with jellies. Oh. My. God. It was thick like a smoothie rather than regular bubble tea consistency, made with ice and real avocado in a blender. Just sweet enough but not super sweet like most, and the jellies were so yummy. I will definitely be getting that again. Prices are good, food was awesome, we will be back and soon.

Good pho in The Dalles! I got the pho with sliced steak in it and my Husband got the fried rice with beef. We both liked it a lot. I got it to go. They gave me plenty of basil, cilantro, and a container with all the different condiments in it for my pho. They gave me and bowl that contained all the ingredients and a separate container with the broth for me to pour over it all. I like that they have menu items for more adventurous eaters as well as some standard things like fried rice. Makes it so I can go here more often, even with pickier people. Looking forward to trying something described as 'sour pork hash'. No idea what it is, but I want to try it. I hope people really start to go here so I can have a close place to get yummy Vietnamese food.

Always nice to find a Vietnamese place that offers beer. I arrived late on a Sunday night so it was not busy and I got prompt and friendly service from the owner. They have a fairly wide selection of Vietnamese dishes including the ubiquitous Pho noodles. The inside is huge and there's a bar that looks adiquate. But you don't come here for the cocktails, it's the Pho that's font and center. I was quite surprised to see a pho place in The Dalles so needless to say I was not expecting it to be great. So, I was surprised again when the quality was quite good! I also had the vermicelli noodles with grilled pork and fresh vegetables. The dish is supposed to be served with cold noodles, cold vegetables and hot grilled pork and you pour a sweet savory sauce over it. It was perfect with my Peroni Beer on this hot summer evening. Plus there is a small patio, so when the weather cools down it will be a bonus to eat a hot bowl of Pho outside.

Fantastic food, it is hard to find good ethnic food in places like the dalls. Also their broth is msg free.
